Bantu Community Joins Sunday Parkways - Printable Version

On August 25th Portland Sunday Parkways received a surprise and gift.  Fourteen members of the somalibantuoregon.net joined us as Intersection Superheroes.  As you know, diversity is important to us here and we work hard on creating an inclusive event.  But when Sunday Parkways is approached by an organization to be volunteers, well, it just puts a huge smile on our Parkways face.

Intrigued by how this organization found out about us, I asked one of the elders, Abdirahman Omar.  He had signed up to receive a daily update from the City of Portland on volunteer opportunities and he read about our need for Sunday Parkways volunteers.

“When I took a look at your website and I saw the picture of the event that was coming up which looked so great and wonderful. I was so interested that I wanted to go out there and volunteer at the Sunday Parkways. I told my community about Sunday Parkways and they were so interested too so we thought we should volunteer because we love to help out. The thing is we are a Community of an Organization that is willing to volunteer and help out, even though we are a small Organization we would like to be part of events.”

For the NE event, the youth and elders of the Somali Bantu Community Organization will be increasing their number to 24 volunteers.

We would like to thank YOU for bringing joy to Sunday Parkways.
